Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) – Life and Rescue Boats, Fire Fighting Equipment and Capabilities, Emergency Readiness, etc.
This international convention, which has the support of more than 160 countries covers almost all aspects of maritime safety from provision of lifeboats and life-jackets, to standards on ship building, as well as safety in navigation and the use of radio communications. There is a lot to know and there is a great need to apply all of these properly.
International Ship and Port Security Code (ISPS) – Vessel Security Plan, Vessel Security Officer, Shipboard Security Documentation, training and procedures, etc.. The ISPS requirements include prevention of unauthorized access to ships, port facilities and restricted areas, prohibition of unauthorized weapons, security plans for ships and port facilities, and appropriate training for familiarization.
Maritime Pollution (MARPOL) – Oil Record Books and Oily Water Separators, Oil Waste Retention, Trash, Sewage and Engine Exhaust management, Equipment Approvals, Record Keeping, etc. Our team has decades of experience with these requirements are ready to help support your internal operations, enforcement, and training.
Standards for Training, Certification and Watchkeeping (STCW) – Crew Training and Certification to International Minimum Standards, Licenses, Endorsements, etc.
STCW are internationally recognized rules that direct the knowledge and skills mariners need to perform their jobs safely. JHM can provide STCW Compliance audit support and training to facilitate compliance.
Load Lines (ICLL) – Verification of Vessel Design and Max Cargo Loading Capacity, Hull Condition, Cargo Hatch / Hull Opening Watertight / Weathertight Integrity, etc.
It is obviously a critical factor in any maritime venture to ensure that ships and vessels are not overloaded and their hull condition and integrity are optimal for deep sea transport. The JHM team has years of experience with vessels of all types and conditions.
Training on Domestic Regulations
Noncompliance with Domestic Regulations such as Titles 33 and 46, U.S. Code of Federal Regulations, increase the risk of significant civil penalties and even criminal investigation in the case of Navigation Safety or Pollution Prevention requirements. Decades of experience with these complex regulations allows JHM professionals to help you achieve full compliance.
While US Coast Guard Marine Safety Manuals and Navigation and Vessel Inspection Circulars are non-directive, meaning that they do not have the force of law, they are important “tools” for complying with the regulations. JHM can help you stay up to date on these changes to ensure best practices for your maritime-related business.
